whenever i go to recover my facebook account, it asked me to pick three friends. why are some of my friends that i actually trust not on the list? like, would they have to message me or contact me on facebook for them to show up on the list before i recover it?

It's to keep the answers random, a security measure.
If someone were to "recover" your account, and if that someone knew your most trusted friends, that someone will easily gain access to your account if Facebook decided to post up your close friends in those recovery questions
