Mobile data usage? Also, how much is 10kb in terms of opening apps etc? - Tiffany - 03-24-2014 11:17 AM

So I'm going overseas, and I've applied for international roaming. The charge rate is 20 cents for 10kb of data,
now this means nothing to me at all... Is that really really expensive?
All ill really do online (on my iphone) is a few things on facebook, twitter etc...

Can someone tell me how many kb's it will take for basic things like a facebook status update etc,
thanks Big GrinBig Grin

Assuming that your currency is USD, it is very expensive.

A text (for example, "a") is worth 1byte.

1024 bytes = 1 kilobyte.

That may not sound much, (since it really is not for plain texts), but for images and multimedia, it gets very expensive. Facebook and most other popular sites have flash advertisements, and flash consumes a lot of data. A small flash advertisement can easily exceed 200kb.

Viewing an image if Facebook can cost you a dollar. Viewing another can cost you another dollar. A low quality 30 second video could cost you 5 dollars. Try these estimates.
