Is it wrong to know someone's Facebook password? - Graham - 03-24-2014 11:38 AM

I know someone's Facebook password and they never changed it. I go on there and read their messages every now and again. They have pretty interesting conversations with other people, and I've watched them go threw a lot of stuff through their private messages for a long time, mostly negative stuff. Anyway I'm not close with this person anymore, I knew them and now I kinda watch their life go on from their Facebook page. Is this wrong? I mean they did tell it to me to sign them in one time, so it's not like I got it it some sinister way. Plus I would never tell anyone who they were and what they were up to. So is it really that bad? Or should I tell them? Any feedback would be great thanks!

No, knowing someone's Password isn't wrong but it is wrong to intrude on someone's personal information. If you ever read the Facebook's EULA and/or their Terms and Policies, you can be jailed or fined a large sum of $$$. Facebook can tell if someone unauthorized has been logging into someone's account. If you are caught by the person you logged into (or has been taken action by the Facebook team), Facebook can easily gather every information and activities you had on facebook.com and present them in court. Everything has been archived; you are not safe.

Just ask yourself if you would like it if someone was watching your life through Facebook without your knowledge. I mean I know you said they told you to sign them on once but you keep going back to it because it's entertaining. It's kinda not right. I'm not judging, I'm just saying. I think you should either tell them or if not just don't go on there anymore.

1. That is a douchey thing to do. You have no right to be reading their private conversations.
2. If you were them, you would want to know that someone had been spying on them.
3. What you are doing is invading privacy and also stealing someone's identity. This is against the Facebook EULA and their Terms and Conditions and you can be taken to court and fined a large sum of money.

When you do anything online it is archived and stored away - it is not removed. Facebook have evidence of you consistently logging in from your computer and can look up in their records to see how many times you have done it.

I think you should tell the person IMMEDIATELY and hope that they don't take any further action. Think yourself lucky if you only lose a friend because of it.

Knowing it isn't wrong, but using it is.

How would you feel if someone was doing that to you and spying on your life? You are a stalker, it doesn't matter how you got the password, what you are doing is immoral.

Stop using it and send them a note telling them to change their password.

It depends. If the password is given by the other, it is ok. If you get it but the other person does not know, I think it is not right.
