By professionals I mean: lawyers, school teachers, etc...Are Canadians discouraged to use social networks? Is this something that happens at a personal, cultural or legal level?

I'm a retired teacher in Canada and opened my Facebook account before I retired.... never any issue.

yes. they are also discouraged from driving cars and using electricity.
it's a cultural thing - if something is popular in the US, Canadians dislike it.
