Im not sure what Twitter is but I signed up through a link of a friend. Now, I have strangers "following" me on Twitter. Please help with terminology and purpose of it. Is it safe?

It's just another social networking site--basically it's an endless stream of facebook status updates. I don't really see the point, but whatever. And instead of being 'friends' with someone, you 'follow' them. Of course it's safe, why wouldn't it be?

Same as the first response, a type of online social network, like facebook, only it is the newest of the "networking fads".
