Are my parents right about facebook? PLZ ANSWER!? - NikNik - 03-24-2014 11:49 AM

i am 13 and I want a facebook really bad! Almost all of my friends have one, and I've talked to parents about it but they dont like the idea of it! My dad has one and he still won't let me. He says facebook often changes your privacy settings without you knowing....IS THAT TRUE??? he is afraid im gonna get stalked or something. My mom thinks facebook is gonna create a lot of drama, but I am good with making sure I know what will happen when I post certain things on facebook, like plans some people arent included in. How do I covince them I should get one and are they even right??? HELP!

There parents, thats how they will react.

Facebook isn't bad, it's just an addiction.

Doesn't create drama, if drama isn't created.

Doesn't change privacy settings, without you changing your privacy settings.

Facebook does have privacy issues, but Mark Zuckerberg (the founder) says he realizes the issues and is working on them. Now, they are better about letting you know first so that you can change them yourself if you don't like them.

Yeah you have to be quite careful about the privacy settings on facebook. It's quite addictive once you get into it Wink but can be good for keeping in touch with people you don't often see. You could suggest to your parents that they set up your account for you, so they could adjust the settings, and tell them that whenever they want to look at what you are doing they can? Good luck Smile

Facebook does not care about its users or their privacy. Furthermore, anything and everything you upload to their servers becomes their property. Employers and other organizations have made it a "rule" to look at people's profiles in facebook in search of dirt!
Everyone should dump FaceBook.

Your parents say this to try and protect you. Facebook is actually very good when it comes to making new friends, talking to all of your current friends, finding long lost friends etc... The only time Facebook could change your privacy settings is if someone actually hacked into your account and changed it. Other than that, it can't change your privacy settings without you knowing. Try and tell them that you're old enough to make your own mistakes and if getting facebook is a mistake for you then so be it, you can always delete it if anything does happen.

Good luck Smile x

i have had a facebook for a year now and there is not a way that facebook can change your privacy settings. although there is some things that you might want to stay away from on facebook. you should research it a little more before you decide to get a facebook. it can start to become addicting and take up much of your time. believe me from a guy that knows. i had to take a grade over because of it. make sure it does not become to important and try not to get on it to often. but it is fun and nice to have one. hope this helps.
