Any Kenjutsu schools in Metro Manila, Philippines? - Rijotan - 03-24-2014 11:49 AM

My brother is moving over to the Philippines (Metro Manila area) and was wondering if there are any Kenjutsu, ninjutsu or any Japanese weapons martial arts schools in the area? I know there is kendo, but he doesn't want kendo as he views this more of a sport.

Really?

They don't even have potable water or electricity in the Philippines.

So Kenjutsu and Ninjutsu? Likely no.

1) He is interested in weapons
2) He is in the Philippines
3) He is not interested in combat sports

Why not do Escrima/Kali/Arnis? (Filipino martial arts) They have some very legit instructors in the Philippines.

For kenjutsu he can look at these two schools that I know of:

1) Sugawara Budo Philippines, which teaches classes in Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto-ryu. Their website is: http://www.sugawarabudoph.com/

2) Shinkendo Philippines. This is a gendai art, but is still considered kenjutsu by many. Their Facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Shinkendo-Philippines/244548632345279

There may be more, but these are the ones that I can verify that have lineage to the ryu's founders.
