Maybe your friends don't have facebook.

Top of the page hit account,then edit friends. you can look for people by name, location, school attended etc. in the search bar or you can click find friends on the left side of the page.
Once you find someone click them and it will bring you to their page. Click friend request and your done. Once they accept your request then your friends.
