Just curious to know, if I remove a friend from my facebook account, will he be sent some sort of notification that I've removed him?

Nope, his friends list will just be shortened by 1. It would be up to him to go through his list to see whose missing.

No, you don't receive any notification. However, they can easily figure it out if they go to your wall, etc.
