I'd say the greatest benefit of social media is the one-on-one interaction you can have with people around the world.
For businesses, it puts them in much closer communication with their customers and facilitates conversations with each individual. For friends, it lets them stay in touch and meet new people of similar interests regardless of where in the world they are. They can share the things they like, and the things they don't like
Ultimately the one-on-one communication brings the world closer together and that is really a great benefit.

Social media has changed the way we interact with people, no questions asked! The greatest benefits are:
1. Faster updates
2. More reach or market for businesses
3. Targeted marketing campaign
4. Lower cost of promoting your product or service vs traditional forms of advertising
5. A better way to engage followers/customers
