Does this sound controlling to you? - john - 03-24-2014 04:34 PM

I'm in my late 20s yet sometimes feel like I am 4 with the way my parents treat me. If I tell them a story that involves a friend, my mom goes, "Who's your friend? What's his name?" I had the chance to meet up with this girl while on vacation but didn't because my extended family was up there too and I didn't wanna be smothered by them. My aunt tells my mom all my Facebook statuses. If I don't tell my mom where I go every night, she google searches me, finds my Facebook profile, and looks at my check-in's. Recently a friend died and my mom was trying to control my emotions, telling me to move on, and then when I called her a control freak, both my parents berated me calling me the most selfish person they know, and that all I care about is myself (I was out all night consoling someone because of the loss). All through high-school I never wrote my own papers (If I told them I wanted to put my own ideas down, they would accuse me of not being able to take advice from others).

Whoa mom! Just talk to her. My mom is the same way! If you tell her that your able to do this on your own she will have to understand! She is not being mean she is trying to protect you. Remember she isn't going to be there forever!

Yes it does you need to take some time away from them but tell them how you feel before you go so they have time to think about it. Also don't check in on Facebook because that way your mum can't check where you are. You could even unfriendly them if you feel it has got to a point that bad. Just remember although they are your parents you don't have to stay with them as it is your life and only you can live it!
