Can i create a underage broker account? - Bruno - 03-24-2014 04:40 PM

Im currently 16 and turning 17 in a few days i was thinking of starting investing money and use the stock market. Ive been researching on how to make money in the stock market and wanted to create a brokerage account in TD Ameritrade (ThinkOrswim) but when i finished putting my social security number and date of birth it said that i was underage and could not open an account. I really want to be a share holder with as little as 100$ to start off and i wanna make an account on a broker to buy and sell shares but i don't know which is under age accepted or which one to use. Please help and give any tips thanks Smile
Do u know which custodial account service is best?

It would be illegal for a broker to offer services to anyone under 18 in the United States.

But save your money for a year while studying investing in your free time.

If you are under age then you can have a parent or guardian open a custodial account for you.

Vanguard is VERY user friendly. Would it be possible for an adult in your life to open an account for you? Call this number for information; 800-523-1188

In North America, you must be 18 to open a brokerage account. You can have a parent open a custodian account for you using your social security number and when you turn 18 all the assets in the account can be moved to an account in your name.

There is no such thing as a "best" custodial account" it isa not a service but a registeration used to define a type of account - you have no choice as to what's "best", they are all the same
