I'm trying to figure out this timeline business on Facebook and I keep running into the problem with a phone number. Do you need to have a phone that has texting in order to get the timeline?

You don't need a phone number for anything on facebook as far as I've seen. My timeline hasn't asked for one.

if facebook is insisting that you enter your phone number, it's not because of the timeline, it has to do with something else, usually it's because you are suspected of having more than one account, which is a violation of their terms of service
