Should sermons be tweeted? - Joe Harris - 03-24-2014 08:25 PM

for the infirm who can't make it to church?

I worry that it will encourage lower church attendance if everyone can just check Twitter for a couple minutes each Sunday morning.

I know a lot who have them as a podcast.

If it does in fact encourage lower church attendance, I am all for it.
Anything that removes income from criminal preachers is a good thing.

Communal worship is important. However, services for the needy are an indispensable part of outreach. We should use every resource at our disposal to propagate the faith. This includes, telephone/radio broadcasts, television, door to door canvassing, and the internet. Any medium for spreading the faith can and should be used. All that is important is that we spread the faith as far and as widely and rapidly as is technologically possible.

However, part of the core message that we are spreading should encourage those able to do so to attend communal church services. The television and internet are very impersonal mediums. They fail to really make the message of Christ felt in the way that can be done in a more social environment. If you know of someone that is infirm, take them to church with you. Be their firmness and strength.

Maybe, but a lot of stuff like that was around even before the digital age. I knew a guy who somehow got a live TV feed from his church every Sunday, this was maybe back in the 70s/80s. He was extremely allergic to colognes/perfumes and going to church would have put him in the hospital.

Yeah, but if they stuck to the 140 character limit, it would break down to:

God is good. God loves you. Vote republican. Send money.
