Is there a point to make friends when you know you are leaving soon? - manne - 03-24-2014 10:42 PM

I'm studying in a university from now Til June in Boston area for a study abroad, but after I am moving to canada with my family. I'm sad because I feel the friends I make will not last because I'm moving after these 5 months and won't see these people really again. What would you do?

If you ever meet someone who you feel great with, who has interests that you have and cares about you, I see no reason why you shouldn't keep that friendship even when you leave. Those kinds of friends are amazing.

I moved from one country to another 3 years ago and I made a lot of frends like 2 months beefore I left..
There is no point, but if you gotta opurtunity do it - if u like t hang out with them..

I would enjoy every minute with them. I maintained contact with college friends through Christmas cards, visits, letters, phone calls before there was the internet. Because of address changes, I lost touch with some and re-connected with them on Facebook. I am still in touch with my best friend from 6th grade though I haven't seen her since her wedding over 40 years ago.

So, take one day at a time. Some relationships will be casual and you will lose touch. The true friends you will keep for as long as you both make the effort. You may see one another on a vacation or business trip (I did) years from now. One might even prove to be a job connection for the other. Relax and enjoy your time here. Boston's an interesting city.
