I have deactivated a facebook account but it is still there?!? - English Miss. - 03-25-2014 12:34 AM

I deactivated my sister's facebook account because she wanted to open another one using her own email address (the other one was with an email address she doesn't want to use anymore but wants her boyfriend to use it instead). I started another one up for her using the email she prefers but the deactivated one still seems to be there underneath the new one when I search her name. When you deactivate an account why doesn't it just disappear and go away forever?

Facebook accounts do deactivate, but they are not deleted. It even says it when going through the deactivation process. If her boyfriend wants to use the email on Facebook then he will have to manually change and delete everything.

When you deactivate your account, your profile and all its associated information are immediately made inaccessible to other Facebook users. Although this means that you effectively disappear from the service, your information will remain saved by Facebook so that you can reactivate your account whenever you want.

To completely delete your account you have to permanently delete it. This guide will show you how to delete your account on Facebook:

Good luck!
