I was looking at my friend's FB page and clicked on one of her friend's profile (thru a post on her timeline) but then it showed that we had no mutual friends. Does that mean the two aren't friends anymore? Just wondering. Thanks.

you cant hide mutual friends
but there are lots of other possibilities
maybe that friend deactivated her account, or maybe facebook suspended her account for breaking the rules, like lying about her name or age, or creating more than one account

Just login your Account and go to the Privacy setting tab under the Accounts and after that just click on the view setting showing above connecting on Facebook. This section there are so many things whatever you want just click on the tab and change the setting.
If you want to hide your certain friends click on the above "See your friend list".
