so how relieved were you when you found out you couldn't buy facebook as an IPO? - BILL - 03-26-2014 04:55 AM

having never messed with an IPO before, i didn't realize that i'm not enough of a big dog to get involved. i planned on purchasing about 10 shares to see what happened for better or for worse. what are your thoughts and opinions, will facebook be something like google and bring in over 10x the return, or is it destined to mediocrity for the next while..... thanks in advance

Destined for a place as a footnote to computer history. Up there with pets.com, theglobe.com, myspace, the Apple Lisa, Palm Pilot, Bowmar Brain, NeXT computers, etc, etc...

Difference between Facebook and Google is that Facebook is simply a social network site. Google is a search engine.

Facebook's only way of turning a profit will be through advertisement, and, lets be honest, the people that are likely to look at the advertisements are teenagers who spend all day on facebook. And they won't be buying anything. Anyone with the ability to buy something won't, or at least shouldn't, be lured in by a flashy ad saying how much money you could save/great deals on something.

I heard rumours that Facebook is going to charge users, but when I did a search, apparantly it's all a hoax. Doesn't matter, either way. I imagine the company that bought Facebook were playing around with the idea, but the repercussions just weren't worth it.

Facebook itself is, to me, absolutely pointless. I won't elaborate on that as it'd take all day.

I don't know how many decades it'll take for even one percent of the cost to buy Facebook will be made. Remember, it sold for a hundred BILLION dollars. An exorbitant price, for a useless site. I'm just hoping people get so frustrated that they go back to a different social networking site, and I won't have to hear the constant natter about the damn thing.

It's popular, and it'll likely be remembered because of this popularity, but it most certainly wasn't worth it.

im happy i can buy it now...its going to skyrocket, especially due to growth in africa and asia. a lot of people dont understand the facebook referral program, which generates billions in revenue for the company. essentially, if you refer people to sign up for the website, you get a check for hundreds of dollars from facebook. this encourages more users
