How to switch from Engineering to Photography? - deepti - 03-26-2014 12:31 PM

HI All,
I work full time as a software engineer in a company, I will be 24 years old in May, I have a graduation of B.E. in I.T., however I do not enjoy my job role at all and would like to pursue a career in Photography.
I am from India.

I have started shooting weddings here in India though, but I would like to learn a lot more about photography.

Should I join a photography school in US to learn more about photography?
Which photography schools are good in US? And how much will be the approximate cost ?

Thanks in Advance for all your answers.

Regards,
Deepti

Continue working as a software engineer for the money. Shoot outside work. It usually takes a long time to establish yourself as a photographer. Still don't know photography?

Photography is such a wide field that I suggest you narrow your photographic interests and update your post. If you want to shoot weddings I think a degree in photo is a waste of resources. Business accounting and marketing would be important. And what you lack technically can be improved with research and practice.
Commercial photography can be well served by a degree and there are some programs with internships which could prove useful. Good luck!

HI Casey,

Sorry that I forgot to mention that although I like shooting weddings, my interest lies in fashion photography and commercial photography.
Do you think that genre of photography requires a training from a photography school?
