This morning I had a notification that my bf was now friends with a certain girl. He says he didn't send the request and didn't accept her (lies I know!) but is there a way to tell on facebook to see who actually sent the request?

Once the request has been accepted there is no way for a third party account to view what you are looking to do. The simple answer is NO.

You guys don't have a healthy relationship if you get that jealous and suspicious about your boyfriend adding a friend on facebook. Jeez. Get over it. Anyway, why would it matter if he was the one who did send the request..?
And no, you can't know who sent it.
