Hello, Andrew!

Your Twitter "followers" are people or organizations that elect to view all of your posts. They are generally people with whom you share a certain interest or political orientation so, in that sense, the Twitter universe is comprised of myriad sub-communities where like minded people reside (for example, I "follow" professional writers). However, they may not necessarily respond; I have had several followers for awhile and still have no idea who they are or what they think of my posts. But it's nice to know that someone out there is reading what I have to say in 140 words. Celebrities have thousands of followers; whenever they say "hi," their ardent throng receives a notice in their e-mail inbox. Think of it as having your own fan club.
