i might be getting a nokia lumia for my birthday and i love photography, would i be able to get instagram on the nokia lumia 520?

There's no official instagram app on windows phones. There are several apps that can be used to upload pictures to instagram (sorry, I can't remember there names) but you need to already have an instagram account.

Jared is correct - there is no official Instagram app available for Windows Phone. However, there are third party Instagram apps that work in the exact same way as Instagram. The best one is 'Instance' which allows you to register, upload, comment, like, follow and find your Facebook friends. There is a free version (with ads) or a paid version.
