What kind of photography should I present? - Jordan - 04-03-2014 09:17 AM

I'm trying to get into Tennessee's Governor's School for the Arts this summer, and I have to present my portfolio in mid-January. My area of interest is photography, but I've been told I only need to submit 2 or 3 photos. I'm pretty good at photography, but my question is what kind would make the best impression? Should I use some that show especially good composition, or especially good colors/editing? What would be most impressive and convincing that I'm good at it?

My photography instagram account is @thousandwords_jem. That's not all my photos of course but it's a sample.

If someone could please, please, give me some educated input that would be amazing!

Pick out the best of your best images.

Only pick those that are technically perfect as possible and whose composition is brilliant.

Avoid using images of your friends, dog or other pets as well as landscapes and sunsets.

While you have images posted on Instagram, people who what to view them have to join. Look for another site like Flickr, Photobucket or others that do not require viewers to join a site

Edit: Are you going to school to learn how to be a photographer or a photo retoucher? If you are planning to be a photographer (shooter), do NOT include any images that have been manipulated in Photoshop. You want to show the school you abilities to use a camera and produce amazing images right in the camera

foto ace has great advice (as per usual)

i would add a basic piece of advice. Dont go safe street photography and candid photos are great since its essentially impossible for another person to have the same thing, sending in a photo of a landmark/building you will most probably have the same as another person.
