There are plenty of Facebook groups dedicated to making new friends.
The group entitled "PLEASE BE MY NEWEST FRIEND ADD ME" has over 15'000 members. It appears to be the biggest "Add Me" group.

There are thousands upon thousands of groups on Facebook. Try searching for any of your hobbies/interests and you're bound to find like minded people with similar interests!
As an example I just found 210 results for a group search on "Yahoo Answers". It looks like the biggest group is called "I'm Addicted to Yahoo Answers" with 510 members.
