Advertising revenue. It's the reason almost every site is valuable.
Whenever you view a page, you're loading multiple advertisements, and Facebook is getting paid because of it. If you click on an ad, they get even more. This is what drives people to create and manage websites!

Think for a second. Millions of people use Facebook and, without knowing it are subjecting themselves to a ton of ads. They are constantly there, even if you don't notice them. Because of site traffic, prices for advertisement increase by a shit ton and money is easily made. That's how most sites are paid for and how they make money.
