Once I switch to the new Timeline layout on Facebook, how do I switch back to the original format?
I doubt that everyone is getting switched. It is optional at this point.

you cant switch back - everyone is getting converted to the timeline format this week

As for the changing back issue, although for the moment Facebook did not make a clear statement about the deployment of the upgrade in any of its official pages, and as a consequence there is a lot of false information going around, experienced users know that Facebook upgrades of this size are never optional.
Besides, there are clear evidences that indicate that there will be no way to go back to the old Profile. Take a look at the article in the source to see what those evidences are.

Timeline will become mandatory on 12-27-11. Until then, you can switch back and forth from it. The good thing about Timeline is that you can use the new FB layouts while you have Timeline activated. I just got a layout and it's pretty cool. The only legit site I know of right now for Facebook layouts is http://www.fblyts.com. Hope this helps.
