So... first of all, why is it so dam* popular?
Secondly, i don't understand the whole trending thing. or the #_____. how does that work? can you just write # anything, or are there certain ones you can use? if so, how do you figure them out?

Twitter is just a website where everybody talk about what they do. i have no idea how it is so popular, maybe because the idea is so simple. and everybody likes to read what others think. simple human nature.

I don't like it, but Twitter is a microblogging website. You can 'follow' people without their consent, and post status updates up to 140 characters long. Check below for more info.

The # are trends and you can use whatever you want to put in there. And they are usually songs or movies or stuff people talk about. You don't have to use but whatever. If yo have the app you can see what some of them are so you aren't like WTF. People are on Twitter a lot. And celebrities are always on it. It's more random than Facebook and people say weird things. I hop ethis helped and if you need anymore help I know Twitter.
