No, I don't think so but it depends on people's mentality....

I think "showing off" as you put it, becomes habit for people. Jealousy and competition usually isn't a problem unless it is between a group of friends. If anything, I think social media within close groups of people can cause lack of tolerance, which makes anything that you share on social media up to scrutiny by others.
