Is Minority Stress a common problem with LGBT people? - Ewan - 04-07-2014 06:52 PM

So my doctor thinks that I have "Minority Stress" which is when I realised being gay and then in 5% of the population which historically has been very oppressed causes an existential crisis etc.

Do you think may other LGBT people have this

LOL! Right after I read this question I went to FaceBook and came across a survey on just this topic, but aimed at trans people.

I think we all have some degree of stress related to being members of a misunderstood minority group. To some degree I think it's age related as well. Younger people (teens) stress about this stuff a LOT, while older folks (35+) have long since learned how to cope with things. Oh, and I think the number is higher than 5%. There are a LOT of people still in the closet or who will never allow themselves to fully explore their sexuality or gender related feelings.
