As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work, what people search for, the actual search terms or keywords typed into search engines and which search engines are preferred by their targeted audience. Optimizing a website may involve editing its content, HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines. Promoting a site to increase the number of backlinks, or inbound links, is another SEO tactic.

SEO is working on the content of your site in order to move it up in Search Engine Ranking.
The best way to get good traffic is to have strong content that addresses a specific topic. Make sure your tags, post titles, page titles, photo names, relate to that topic. Optimize per page, not your site as a whole. Don't use too many keywords on your post, but make sure there are a good amount sprinkled throughout the post.
Also try to get sites that rank well to link to your site. inbound links play a strong role in getting the (targeted) traffic to your site.
If the site is new, you may need to wait several weeks for it to get indexed.
