first register in google analytics by adding your site
copy the google generated html code and paste in your site as instructed by the google
Now your site traffic will be tracked after code was placed correctly at the appropriate place in the source page of your website

There are different sites which let the company know about the traffic they have on their site. one is google analytics and the other is webmaster tools, both will tell you about the different characteristics of the traffic like the top keywords, unique visits, bounce rate, new visits and much more..
