Internet marketing can include all kinds of online approaches. It can be email, social media outreach, blogs, newsletters your customers subscribe to, display advertising, mobile advertising or the perfect blended cocktail of all these vehicles. Perhaps you’ve dabbled in all of them—but have you given press releases a try? Unlike other forms of content, press releases have just one goal: To provide succinct, newsworthy information to your audience.

Your site probably got hit by one of these:

Panda is a Google algorithm that punishes poor quality content.
Penguin is another algorithm orientated towards spammy backlinks.

The solution is simple:

You should focus on producing high quality content, that people actually want to read. No spun content, not these 200-300 word articles that offer no value, etc. In addition to that don't build too much artificial backlinks.

Basically trying too hard to improve your rankings can hurt your rankings if you don't do it really carefully. Google likes to show only the best quality content to their users, so that's what you need to go after.
