Is it just ie freezing or the entire pc ? you can try opening task manager and use ie at the same time and you can probably see whats causing the freeze maybe a extension or so best advice use chrome or firefox

excessive amounts of generic addons. minor adware infections to more serious type of infections.. temp internet files not routinly purged.
vast amount of other minor and major issues.
