Do you think the reason why women are objectified more than men in the media is because...? - Java man - 04-08-2014 04:47 AM

the female body appeals more to both men and women? I have seen several surveys done asking women who they would rather see nude/scantly clad (in the media, in works of art, etc.,) men or women? Surprisingly the majority of women admitted that they would much rather see an attractive good looking woman nude or scantly clad than a good looking man nude or scantly clad. They cited aesthetic reasons, saying that the female form is more aesthetically pleasing to the eye and that the male form, even an attractive male, looks 'bumpy,' 'course,' and 'awkward.' And of course most men would rather see a women nude or scantly clad, so could this be the reason why the media objectifies women more than men?
@The Return of Lilith. Most of these surveys were done informally on facebook etc. The most recent was actually on a feminist's group's facebook page, where a message was posted asking the question why the majority of men aren't portrayed in works of art or in media the way women are; (scantly clad or nude)? All of sudden a bunch of female artists, art critics, etc., admitted that they would much rather see, draw, paint, critique art that had nude female subject(s) in it than artwork that had male nude subject(s).

I disagree. I would prefer to see men like that. I'm always bored when advertisements and entertainment always try to make women all sexual.

Despite being Bisexual, I would love to see more attractive men within the Media. It seems the Media's idea of an attractive man doesn't always translate to ours.

Also, I'd like to see evidence of such surveys, and not just hearsays. Thanks.

I have Facebook - can you post me a link to one of these? Even the link to the Feminist group of the most recent survey. I have acquired no proof yet....

Since you've not given any proof for over an hour, this is obviously just your opinion.

I don't see how female bodies are nicer to look at for women. Speaking for myself I prefer male eye candy.

Even in the bible it says that a woman is worth more than rubies. Women are worth a ton of money.

Really? Well if that's true then how comes so many women complain about it? Lol
As a female myself I would just rather see it be fairer (meaning just as much of men as there are women) or not atall.
1) I'm a straight woman - I would rather look at a good looking nude man.
2) The fact I have to sit with my boyfriend while every couple of minutes a naked/sexualised woman being portrayed in a sexual way is on the screen in front of us, actually makes me feel uncomfortable. Do I really need to be reminded every two minutes that I'm not a model or that as a woman my only worth is in how I look and how sexual I am.
3) As a woman sexualisation never sells a product to me, unless the product was underwear or sex toys, perfumes or something like that, something actually sex related. The fact companies always feel the need to throw sex or naked women in in some kind of a way to sell a product, can actually put me off and think how sad it is, that they aren't confident enough about their product (meaning its crap being made to look good) that they have to resort to that to sell it, when it has no relevance to what they are trying to sell.

No. Women are objectified more than men because of a long history of women being considered objects that were traded among men for sexual gratification leading to child bearing. Female objectification in the media is suited to please men because we still live in a primarily male-dominated society.

As far as art work paintings or drawings with nude subjects I can tell you from first hand experience of seeing live nude models, that most male nude models do NOT look that good at all. Most all of the nude male models I have seen are either plain looking, middle aged, old, or ugly to see nude. Not someone I'd want to see nude if I had the choice really. Out of the dozens of male nude models I've seen only maybe 3 or 4 that were nice to looking and who I didn't mind seeing nude at all. So maybe this has to do with the women artists choices of what gender they prefer to see nude. If you ask most women they will tell you it depends on the guy they are looking at.
