If you want to be featured in searches within your community, I assume you would register the business with Yahoo as well as Bing and Google, the latter is the only local maps listing I know off the top of my head: http://Google.com/placesforbusiness/

I understand in the case of Google ranking the factor has gone from citations on directories and customer reviews on the page to mostly the search ranking of your main business site.
Using paid advertising is a whole different more complicated story, there are many books and video courses about online paid advertising that would be wise to consult.

Promote your site with Yahoo's different tools and products Countrywise or area wise.
