How to get a website name? - Lykoleon - 04-08-2014 06:18 PM

I have a portfolio on deviantart.com, but I don't want the url to be the default url I'm given. So i went to godaddy.com and found a website name I want. Before I buy it I want to know how it works. They're also asking if I want webhosting or a website builder. I just want the name so I can replace my default deviantart profile url. How do i do this?

Godaddy is renounced for the endless upsell offers they make before you get to complete the purchase. Namecheap is a fairly well known alternative. Be sure you look for coupon offers before finalizing your purchase, there are generally juicy offers for new domain name purchases, retailmenot usually has decent Godaddy codes you enter on the payment page. You will probably have to fill in a Deviantart provided name server setting in your Godaddy control panel.

You can spend some bucks registering a domain name, and a few more to have a company host your website, or you can get it all for free.

Buying domain name without hosting account it would be useless. Website = domain name + hosting
