Really slow internet? - Z - 04-08-2014 06:20 PM

Videos won't buffer, and it's definitely the router/connection because the light on the router is flashing when it should be steady. I'm with talk talk. It's been like this for several days. I've checked every related wire and nothings wrong. also, I ran an internet speed check and the download speed is 1.33/s and upload is 0.570/s.just wondering - Is that slow? it feels it. what can i do??? i'm desperate

standard 20mb broadband should run at between 10-16 down
and 0.7 to 1.5 up.

anything faster is a bonus, anything less may be poor wiring or bad firewall software.
or TOO FAR AWAY FROM A DIGITAL line/connection/exchange
** note
all connections experience RUSH HOUR and testing should be repeated 3 or 4 times over a 24 hr period for a fair set of results, avoiding RUSH HOURs

all testing should be done with a LAN cable connected pc, whilst only ONE pc is connected..

You could try rebooting from the mains, switch it off wait a minute then switch back on again. My router flashes at times and I was told my the provider that it's only a sign that it's picking up a signal to laptop. If re-booting doesn't help, then contact your internet provider.

You need evidence to support any claim of poor performance.

Try using Netmeter

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Network-Tools/Bandwidth-Tools/NetMeter.shtml

This will give daily/weekly/monthly log files of up/down rates with dates and times.

Collect a couple of days of data and approach your isp with the evidence (log files)

First of all to be clear. There is a difference between Megabit and MegaByte . Companies advertise their internet on Mb/s (Megabit/sec) which is 1/8 of 1 MB/s (1 MegaByte/s). Now my question is: On the download speed are you talking about 1.33 Megabit/s or 1.33 MegaByte/s.
1.33 MegaByte/s is pretty good and that should be OK to stream HD videos at no problem.
