I am in the interview stage for a Social Media Marketing job for a company.
I have experience in this field, however previous my job was to maintain the existing profiles.
In the new job I would be expected to promote and publicise the Facebook page, generate as many likes as possible, with very little existing activity to work on.
HOW would I do this?
WHERE would I find these likes?
I need some ideas on how to initially get business profiles off the ground.

You just need to promote the facebook page on a very big group. Also you can advertise of facebook with free coupons, this will give you real likes. Same thing is with twitter.

create a appealing facebook fan page. build audience from the contacts. share some interesting among your friends to like their post.

For facebook likes, we have an option of Facebook Promotions. By using these Promotions we will get the likes for this we have to pay for Facebook.
If u don't want to Paid Promotions. You can get likes through Normal Process.
Create a page for ur company and invite your friends to like the page.
Update the page regularly with fresh,latest and unique content.
Communicate with your followers and update the content as their wish.
Run quizzes and competitions.
Try to post the interesting topics.
These are some interesting tips to increase facebook likes.

you can use Facebook ads (cheaper when you promote a facebook fan page than an external page), or go to fiver.com and pay $5 for someone that sends you some likes to the page

Hey Cpat, I noticed you haven't picked a "Best Answer" yet.... I also help small businesses with facebook marketing for a living... and, i agree with a few of the suggestions below thus far. However, my main method of getting local business fb pages of the ground.. I'm not willing to share here... then I'd have too much competition. lol. But, send me a PM and i'll tell you right away, my number 1 secret of doing this. Hint: it certainly doesn't involve anything mentioned thus far!

for facebook likes buy from the facebook 1 like for Rs.2.50, if you want genuine likes it will take somuch time. daily posting 3-5 posting per day. and maintain healthy friendship with each other
