If you have the same content on your website as your blog will that prevent you from ranking on Google? - Kevin - 04-08-2014 06:33 PM

For some reason my site is not ranking on Google but I have the same reviews (Original content) on both my website and blog. I understand having duplicate content can effect your page rank. But can like 8 of the same reviews on both of my blog and website do that?

Duplicate content, whether within your domain or from external sources can be an issue. This is one of the crucial point in today's search engine algorithms. Duplicates will not only pull you down on your rankings but also split the link juices that could have made a single page more popular. Bogs for instance have archives that contain exact content as the individual posts. But if it can't be helped and you really need duplicate content on your site, use the rel="noindex" attribute on the duplicates to prevent search engines from indexing repeated content. Learn more about this at the source.

There are different opinions on that....
I also read lately that it does not matter if you put the same content on your blog as on your website, as long as it's another domain.... but who knows exactly about the big G.....

If the pages are identical, with no other content, then that's definitely a problem. Google will normally only index one version of an identical page. If it's only a portion of the content then it depends on how large of a portion it is.

Content that is not 100% unique can and many times will rank just fine. But if a majority of the content is duplicate, it will likely not rank or even be indexed.
