There are hard administrative costs in maintaining you as the official registered owner of a name, it's going to cost you around $10 a year, $2 for the first year of an inferior .info site.

The domain names they occasionally give away may be worst than a free subdomain, due to the high amount of abuse of them by fly by night scam artists. Google recently blocked 11 million free .co.cc domains:

There are a number of free hosts that allow custom domain names obtained elsewhere to be used, if you have no coding background using a blog platform like the industry standard Wordpress.com (which charges a fee to add a domain name or revenue generation) and Google's Blogger.com which has no paid upgrades.

you can only register a domain name if it is not already in use by someone else. there are several hosting companies that will let you register a domain name for free, but you pay for hosting. Bluehost will let you host unlimited numbers of domains, if you own them. If you pay for a year in advance it is less than $100 check it out http://www.bluehost.com you can also register a new domain there.

You can get a free domain at http://freewebhosting.uk.to/ since recently for my pet projects but I know for certain there are other free hosts around.

There are costs that are charged to register each domain so you can not avoid them. Hosting companies also have costs. You want free then it will be slow and covered in ads. A hosting company has to recover their costs.

It does not have to be expensive. We have affordable hosting less than $5 month. Please feel free to check us ou.

You can only do this with .tk domains or similar - no chance of a free dot com... but you can try the link below for all sorts of free website advice
