Most people would want ot start with a free host like Google's Blogger.com or Wordpress.com, perhaps growing to a paid "unlimited" shared hosting account with an easy wordpress installer for about $8 a month, $12 year for each added domain name.

Either inserting ads, Google's Adsense most commonly used on blogs, or affiliate links to online retailers are the most common way to make money, the majority of people who attempt to make money on the internet fail, Google Adsense has a minimum payout level of $100 which typically requires tens of thousands of visitors to earn.

It may be best to stick to a topic you have a passion or interest in to improve the chances of your sticking to it long enough to see a payoff, you would typically write at least a couple of original quality articles a week, picking a specific theme (not an online diary) can make it easier to get search engine ranking, writing about a topic people spend money on improves the chances of making money from it.

Wordpress.com is really good. It can be used for blogs while the big brother, Wordpress.org, can be used to create a more robust website with more freedom for customization. If you're just looking to get a blog online that you can post articles to, upload photos, video, etc. then I would go with Wordpress.com. Google's Blogspot is also a good tool. I have used both, though, and still prefer Wordpress.

The sites below were created with Wordpress.org.

You can use either wordpress and blogger, and if ur a newbie I would recommend blogger cuz it is easier to understand. WordPress is a bit more complex, but you can familiarize yourself with it. Wordpress is more suitable for professional bloggers. In any event, both blogger and wordpress do not allow to use freeblogs to make money using any method other than the methods they recommend.
