I never knew the cause of my mothers death and I just want to see her birth certificate... Are there any places where I can access this sort of information without having to pay or give away card details?

Sates control that. You won't find it post it on any LinkedIn page. You can buy a copy from the hospital / county / parish where she was born / died.
