Downloaded torrent without VPN on for a few seconds! Would I get caught? - User - 04-08-2014 07:21 PM
I usually download torrent with my VPN on. I've accidentally turned on the torrents without the vpn and realized it in a while and turned it off. This happened with in a period of, say 10 seconds max. Is this short period of torrenting enough to get me caught? Could someone know my IP even now (from torrent history among trackers etc)?

Don't worry about it. You are just as likely to get caught using a VPN. Whatever you do to hide, there MUST be indentifiers for your machine attached, or how do you think you would ever get return packets? And many VPNs are known to steal information from users, knowing those users are never likely to shout too loud when they get robbed.

People get caught by "Anti-Theft" organisations who get paid to..
Download torrents and make a note of attached IP's.
They then take that info to the Persons ISP.
