How do I redirect regular visitors to my blog after the name and url have been changed? - Edward - 04-08-2014 07:29 PM

I recently changed the name and url of my blog and the traffic has reduced drastically. How do I make them get the blog if they type in the old url?

You would have to have maintained control of the old name to be able to do a redirect, a 301 (permanent) redirect (if you can do it on your blog platform) is the convention way to send visitors on any page of the old site to the new one. One might have a different redirect on any page that has a counterpart on the new site to make the best use of any pre-existing incoming links.

typically businesses will maintain possession of any old disued domain names to allow redirecting any traffic from old links and to prevent competitors from taking over the name.
