Internet Lag Spikes with Comcast.? - Matt - 04-08-2014 07:33 PM

When I have my laptop wired into the router my desktop would spike to at minimum 1000 ping/ms every... 10-20 seconds and it's getting really annoying. When I unplug the Laptop and go wireless the ping/ms on the laptop is in the 500 range but the desktop stops spiking. Anyone know a solution? Really appreciate the help. He have had the cable guy come at least 4 times and don't want to bother him again.

Probably a router screw up. Try unplugging the power cord on the router for no less than 30 seconds, then plug it back in and try. If the issue still comes up then try bypassing the router and hook a computer up directly to the modem. If the issue persists then its an ISP problem and there is nothing you can do besides complain to comcast. If the issue is fixed, your router is bad and needs to be replaced.

Well Matt do you have a Modem and router or just Modem/router one unit.If you have Modem disconnet the router and try hooking the laptop to the modem. Now try a couple of testing sites and see what you come up with. It's also important to make sure you use different servers. If the ping is better then it's your router. If you have a combo unit and comcast has tested you lines coming into the house and report there is no signal lose then I would say replace you Modem/router.You can also try changing you dns servers.Use Open dns to connect to the internet but to be honest in less there is something wrong with the server you are connecting to it won't make that big of a difference.I use only Open dns servers because they are faster than what my ISP uses but I'm talking about 15% at most.
