I heard the owner of facebook is wealthy but how does he makes money i signed up for an account with facebook and i did not have to pay anything but , i did the same with twitter....anyone knows?

they make alot of money from people wanting to advertise on their site because it's popular.

it's advertising, people will pay just about anything to post even a small ad on sites that draw that level of attention.

They have some investors but I don't think they make as much money as other sites like myspace or yahoo for example. My guess is they'll start to make more and more money from ads but initially they didn't focus on that as much as you would think.

ok. So on facebook there are games, and those companies (mainly Playfish) give money to facebook so users can play their game. In the game, users can choose to link their paypal or credit card to their own account in order to purchase things (In Playfish games, you can purchase Playfish Coins/Cash which can get you better items in games).
Also, facebook gets paid by a lot of advertisers.
