How to make a free website to sell things? - Ally - 04-08-2014 07:54 PM

Hi, I'm starting a small online business for handmade vintage shorts. I was going to use etsy or bigcartel.com to sell my shorts but I decided that I would rather have my own website. I'm 14, so I don't really know how to code that much so it has to be relatively simple. I need something completely FREE. I'd prefer my own domain name.

Oh, and I do NOT want to use eBay so please do not suggest that Smile

http://www.google.com/sites

You can sign up for a Google Wallet account and embed buy now buttons, and they will handle the ecommerce end.

But let me warn you ... you may want your own website, but it is EXTREMELY difficult to get eyeballs to a small website. Online stores are in a highly competitive environment. Of course you can pay for Google Adwords to get high on search pages, but that's expensive.

You may want to consider creating a store at Amazon.com ... since they get millions of eyeballs every month and people going there are actually there to buy stuff.

There are plenty of free webhosting sites out there but the problem is that you get a secondary domain AKA subdomain such as (http://www.mysite.HOSTINGCOMPANY.com) which is very very hard to get visits to. You should definitely get a paid site, they are not very costly. The domain name itself is like 5 to 10 bucks per year depending on who you go through and hosting is like 20 to 40 a year. If you do want a free one I would recommend Weebly.com . As for coding, Weebly will pretty much take care of that for you. They have prebuilt themes you can use or if you choose to pay for a site, you can download all kinds of free html templates to use and just tweek the coding a bit. If you need help with your site just let me know, I love working on websites in my spare time. Goodluck!
