Any advice for writing a CV? - anonymous - 04-08-2014 08:01 PM I'm 18, in education and have never written a CV before. I'm looking for a part time job in retail so any advice/tips on writing a CV would be very helpful! Thanks in advance - amber shaheen - 04-08-2014 08:06 PM CV should be neat and typed if possible. Most libraries now have public computers, if you do not have your own. It should also be short, usually no more than two sides of A4. It should be positive, stressing achievements and strengths, and make a good impression in a clear and positive way. The basic format for a CV includes: Personal details, including name, address, phone number, email address and possibly any professional social media presence. You no longer need to include your date of birth, owing to age discrimination rules Career history, starting with your most recent job first. Include dates and temporary or voluntary jobs if appropriate A personal profile which sells yourself and your qualities, tailored towards the job you are applying for Achievements from previous jobs that are relevant Qualifications and training from previous jobs, with the most recent first Interests, if they are relevant and especially if the skills or teamwork concerned are relevant for the job Any extra information, such as reasons for a career change or reasons for gaps in career history, such as caring duties References, ideally two or more and including a recent employer An effective Resume: Is concisely written Contains relevant information about your: Academic background Work Experience Occupational interest areas Activities out side of work Honors or recognition received Is well organized Draws the attention and interest of a busy employer Is easily read and with appropriate use of white space on the pages.... you can download some specimen from internet also for guidance. - Esferasoft - 04-08-2014 08:10 PM Some Point are attractive your cv Get the basics right Presentation is key Understand the job description Making the most of skills Making the most of interests Making the most of experience Including references - Katie - 04-08-2014 08:11 PM I agree with most of what amber shaheen has said. BUT a good CV must NEVER have a personal profile on it. The point of a covering letter is to 'sell' yourself. |
