i tried in safari, mozilla firefox, and google chrome
i am on a mac 10.5.8

If this just started happening and was working correctly before now AND you haven't installed anything in between working and not working...
Run basic maintenance: repair permissions and verify disk. If the verification of the disk shows an error be certain to follow information on screen for repair. You will need 10.5.8 disk for repair.
If you are using any viral/firewall software check your settings within it
