I have the concept of backlinks down pretty well, but what about press releases?
How do you make a press release? What do you do with it? How do you get it out?

You really need something that is at least by a stretch newsworthy to put it in a press release, this is more suitable for organizations and some types of businesses, probably not for the typical affiliate marketer.
There are free and paid press release distribution services, some act as another backlink source by just displaying on their site, a free service might get the nwqa copied to a smaller blog or automated news site, a paid service like prweb.com ($89) may help get a press release to mainstream media.
